MANITOBA

Late fall in Manitoba might be the absolute best time to catch a jumbo lake trout. These fish are fall spawners and become extremely active as they get ready. Sarah Henuset and her crew were up at Kississing Lake for a few days of hardcore lake action and it did not dissapoint.

Brina Tough, another one of Sarah’s hardcore fishing friends made the trek to Hecla Island for some greenbacks. She and Sarah had a great trip.

We caught SO many big walleye, along with some burbot, perch and sauger. This was our second time out with Dalton and after catching trophy fish on our trips, it definitely won’t be our last!
Big thanks to Dalton Cooks Outfitting & Guide Services for taking us out for a couple of days and putting us on the fish!
For those without a boat, shore fishing for a wide variety of species can be spectacular especially if you are willing to put a little work in. Cayden Quenelle made the trek into the back country and McHugh Lake for some monster tiger trout. He caught several Master Angler Tigers including this beautiful fish.

NORTHWESTERN ONTARIO

The big fish are rolling on Lake of the Woods. Jeff Gustafson spent some time on the water recently guiding and fun fishing before he heads down south to fish for 1.25 million dollars on Old Hickory Tennessee. I have spent time with Jeff during the late fall and he has multi species dialed in.

The WBE | The Champions tournament is coming up next week on Old Hickory Lake…this is a pay-per-view event. If you want to check it out, all the info is one their website. Great prizes as well if you purchase, you’ll see them listed!

While Gussy heads south hardcore musky angler Glenn McDonald gears up from some of the best angling of the year. In this you tube video he breaks down his seven favourite presentations for this time of the year.
SASKATCHEWAN
If you are willing to endure some cold temperatures, there are plenty of great walleye opportunities in this part of the world. Every fall friend Jim Price and I would make the trek to Tobin Lake and the late fall walleye run into the river section of this reservoir at Nipawin. We always caught fish, some years better than others, dependent on a few variables. This included water quality and flow as well as the number of ciscoes that would make the trip up river. While Jim and I couldn’t make it this year, the fish are there in good numbers right now. Friend Russ Heatherington sent this photo along just to make me fell bad. Have fun and see you next year!

ALBERTA
Alberta Fishing Report-Wes David

Alberta Fishing Report
Alberta is completely engulfed in the fall hunting season. Big game, waterfowl, and upland game bird hunting are open across the province, and to this point, the weather has made for a comfortable fall hunting season. However, anglers who are taking full advantage of the fall feeding frenzy seem to be doing so on Alberta’s river systems.
In southern Alberta, on the Oldman River, baited jigs and crankbaits are being aggressively hit by the river’s walleye and quality walleye, I’m told. While some anglers are still targeting lake sturgeon on the South Saskatchewan River, walleye, goldeye, and suckers are actively feeding on baited jigs and often stealing the sturgeon bait. On the Bow River, shoreline and driftboat anglers are experiencing great trout bites from rainbow and brown trout with the fly rod.

On the Red Deer River system, anglers are taking full advantage of an incredible goldeye bite and taking their limit home for a date with the smoker. The North Saskatchewan walleye are on fire again with baited jigs, and I’m being told anglers can’t go wrong on the Athabasca River system for walleye, goldeye, burbot, and even the odd northern pike. You can fish all these river systems from the shoreline, with endless shoreline to fish from.

As I write this Hooked Magazine Fishing Report, my truck is loaded, and I will be fishing the Oldman River system in southern Alberta for walleye on my way to fish the East Kootenays River systems for rainbow trout and bull trout. Stay tuned for the next Hooked Magazine Fishing Report.
